My Other Card...

I went to CVS in search of the inexpensive Coppertone products that are apparently giving ECBs, but (not surprisingly) they didn't have any. They did have tons of Smart Rinse left, but I couldn't make a good deal out of it and I already have 6 bottles so I'd say we're done. So I grabbed one more Physician's Formula mascara, used my $6 ECB and $1 coupon paid $1.13 (including tax), got back $7.99.

AND the scanner gave me coupons again. Yay! (Both cards got money off paper towels and pretzels, if I remember correctly, and this card also got $5/Skin Effects.)

Day 20 - Trip 1

First, last night I exchanged the not-cucumber Dove bodywash for the cucumber Dove bodywash. It was easier than I thought it would be, so yay!

Now onto today:

Bought:
1 double Sunday paper - $2.50
1 24-pack of bottled water - $2.99
1 Physician's Formula mascara - $7.99

Used $1/bottled water coupon from scanner (today the scanner gave me nothing on either card!), $1/Physician's Formula, $9.99 in ECBs, $1.55 in cash (6 cents tax)

Got back $7.99. Small loss, but the July deals don't look very exciting so far. I didn't max out any June deals except the bandaids, but I came close. I am not sure if I'll bother getting another Brut or another Smart Rinse before Tuesday.

Day 19 - Trip 1

Well, the store was out of the Smart Rinse of all things (they'd had a ton of it last time I was in) but they had the 2-pack of toothbrushes (they actually had plenty, I might get another pack on Sunday). They also only had one bottle of the cucumber Dove body wash and I needed two bottles of body wash to make my scenario work out, so I bought a different kind and this time I may go to the other CVS and see if they'll let me exchange it.

I thought too much about this deal, to be honest.

Bought:
2 boxes of 12 Breathe Right Strips - $5.99 each/$11.98
5 boxes of cookies/crackers - $1 each/$5
1 bottle of Dove cucumber bodywash - $5.29
1 bottle of Dove bodywash that is not cucumber, boo - $5.29
1 pack of 2 Oral B toothbrushes - $6.99

Used 2 $1/Dove bodywash coupons, 5 $1/Nabisco coupons [they beeped after the first 2 and we weren't sure why but the manager that knows me pushed them through], $5/$30, $12 ECBs, $9.79 from the MyPoints gift card, $1.74 cash. (98 cents sales tax)

Got back $3 for the Dove and $6.99 for the Oral B. I have $1.05 toward the Dove deal but I probably am done for the month.

Total OOP: $13.45
Total merchandise: 5 boxes of Excedrin, 5 boxes of CVS pain relief, 2 rolls of CVS TP, 5 12 oz. Softsoap SPA bodywashes, 1 diabetes monitor (donated), 1 EOB gift bag, 2 EOB lip butters, 2 bottles Herbal Essences shampoo, 2 bottles Herbal Essences conditioner, 5 18 oz. Softsoap SPA bodywashes, 5 Colgate toothbrushes, 3 Aquafresh toothpastes, 1 pair of CVS pantyhose, 4 Johnsons Buddies soaps, 4 travel tissue packs, 1 Dawn dish detergent, 4 double Sunday papers, 2 Tums Quik Paks, 3 boxes of CVS Loratadine, 1 spray sunblock [returned], 1 small tube sunblock, 2 boxes of cereal, 3 Colgate toothpastes, 1 box of 3 Intuition razor refills, 3 Adidas deodorants, 4 Brut deodorants, 5 Dove deodorants, 3 boxes of CVS band aids, 2 packs of CVS cotton swabs, 3 Listerine Smart Rinses, 3 bottles Powerade, 3 Nivea shave gels, 1 Benefiber, 1 bottle Dove shampoo, 1 bottle Dove conditioner, 2 tubes Nutritioniste cleanser, 3 bottles Dove body wash, 2 Oral B power toothbrushes, 2 sets of 2 Oral B power replacement heads, 1 bottle Palmolive Oxy, 12 SoyJoy bars, 2 boxes of Breathe Right strips, 5 boxes of cookies, 2-pack of Oral B toothbrushes

Current ECB status: $9.99

CVS Scenario with $/$$ coupon!

Today in my email I got a $5/$30 coupon. Here's a scenario I worked out...

5 Oreos (or other cookies/crackers) - $5
2 Johnsons Buddies soaps - $1.98
2 Toothbrush packs - $6.99x2
2 bottles of All - $6.49
1 Smart Rinse - $3.49

30.94

-$5 Nabisco coupons
-$2 IP Buddies coupons (these might be adjusted to $1.98)
-$2 All coupons
-5/30

16.94

-12 ECBs
-4.94 on gift card

Get back $13.98, 3.49 (small profit that probably will be counteracted with sales tax)

BUT I don't know what the odds are of either easily accessible CVS having 2 of the toothbrush packs in stock (I think last I checked the store I'm going to first didn't have any). And without those packs I can't come up with a better deal. I do have a coupon for a free Cascade rinse product (around $3) and a free box of Honey Bunches of Oats (around $3) but I don't know if CVS carries either one and while they would get my original total up and my OOP down, I wouldn't get back any ECBs - the toothbrushes are the key to that. And then I'd have a $13.98 ECB to spend next month, when the deals don't look that great. SO. I might not do this at all - my plan pre-coupon was 5 boxes of Oreos for free and MAYBE the All.

One more:

5 Oreos
2 Buddies
1 Listerine
4 Dove bodywash ($5.29 each)

31.63

-$5/$30
-$3 bodywash (I only have 3 $1 coupons left)
-$5 Oreos
-$1.98 Buddies
- $12 ECBs
$4.65 + tax on gift card

Get back $9.49 ($6 Dove and $3.49 Listerine)

Not great. I had another scenario with 2 Bruts but I already got 4 so I can't do that, sadly. Ugh, not sure if this is worth it at all. Stay tuned!

...Edited to add...

My husband just told me that he needs Breathe Right nose strips. Sadly, they're not on sale nor is there a coupon, but...we need them. SO that makes things easier:

5 Oreos - $5
2 Buddies - $1.98
1 Smart Rinse - $3.49
1 Breathe Right - $12.99 I think
2 Dove body wash - $10.58 [OR the toothbrushes if they have them]

34.04 [30.45]

-5/30
-5 Oreos
-$1.98 Buddies
-$2 Dove [nothing if toothbrushes]
-$12 ECBs
-$8.06 on gift card [6.47]

Get back $3 Dove [or $6.99 toothbrushes] and $3.49 Smart Rinse

[The toothbrushes give back more $/lower OOP but are no fun!]

Day 18 - Trip 1

Bought:
12 SoyJoy bars (4 different flavors) - $12
1 double Sunday paper - $2.50
1 small bottle of Palmolive Oxy - 88 cents
Used 2 Buy-2-get-1-free SoyJoy coupons ($1 off each) and 1 $1/4 SoyJoy IP, 25 cents off Palmolive, $12 ECBs

Total was 21 cents (8 cents tax) and I paid with my MyPoints $10 CVS gift card (which should keep my OOP to nothing for the next few transactions, yay!) (Again, if you read my blog and you like what I write, I'd love it if you'd let me give you a referral to mypoints - just leave your email address and name with at least a last initial in the comments. I won't make the comment public if you note that for your privacy.)

Received $12 ECBs (all in one chunk, unfortunately - but next month I should be able to break that up)

CVS Scenarios for 6/22-6/28

I really want to get back to one trip per week (two if I must) and to get most of my items on Sunday when I buy the paper anyway.

I see that there's ANOTHER Charmin/Bounty deal next week - alas, I didn't get the P&G circulars on June 1, and I have enough PT/TP to last me for a bit. But then again, we could always use more paper towels, so I might figure something out. Stay tuned.

But here's my plan:

12 Soy Joy bars (and the odds of my store having 12 of them is...?) - $12
1 newspaper - $2.50
1 pack of tissues or something else around 50 cents
-$3 for SoyJoy (Buy 2 get 1 free x 2, $1 off 4 x 1)
Pay with $12 in ECBs, get back $12 - so get the paper for free

...also, All is BOGO, and with a coupon that could be a decent non-ECB deal. Cascade is also on sale, same thing. And Dove deodorant is on sale for $3.49 - not as good as the other sale, but I may have another $1 coupon coming to me so I *could* get one more.

Stay tuned!

My Other Card

We went out for a walk last night, so I popped into CVS and bought two more of the Oral B toothbrushes and finished out the deal. It's always an adventure at CVS - when I did my deal earlier in the day, the cashier just adjusted my ECB from $6 to $5.99 without saying a word. This time, the cashier rang it up and looked at me and said "It has to be $6 before tax." And I smiled and said "Oh, it's OK, go ahead and adjust it down. I don't mind!" as if this was totally normal. And she did without issue. Maybe people just don't know that they CAN adjust it.

Anyway, no picture, you know what these look like, but yay this was a fun week - 4 toothbrushes and 8 refills and I spent about $1 total on it all.

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Day 17 - Trip 1

Bought 2 packs of 2 Oral B power replacement heads - $11.98
Used 1 BOGO coupon ($5.99), $6 ECBs (adjusted down to $5.99 - the guy didn't even say anything)
Paid 42 cents sales tax, got back $6 ECBs

(Still can get 2 more free brushes on the other card, then done for the week I think. The Almay deal is tempting but...I honestly don't need mascara. We'll see.)

My Other Card

We needed batteries for my daughter's bleepy bloopy toy, and it just happened that Energizer batteries are BOGO this week plus I had two coupons! And since I also had two of each of the Oral-B coupons (2 refills, 2 brushes), I figured I might as well use that too.

I did my math wrong - thought the batteries would be $4.79 (that's what the sign said) but they rang up at $4.49. So my filler (CVS TP) was worth more than I needed. But for some reason, the cashier didn't adjust my ECBs, so I got my first ever negative total (which was applied to the sales tax - so I only paid tax - not as good as my zero OOP receipts but it's still funny to see the negative line!). I paid 46 cents OOP and got $6 ECBs back (I started out with 9.48 so I took a loss, but that's OK, I still can get 2 more toothbrushes...).

Scenario for next week (6/15)

Always thinking ahead...

Buy 2 Cross Action Power toothbrushes (which I need) - $11.98
Buy 2 Brut deodorants - $6.38
- 2x$1/Brut
- BOGO Cross Action (coming in tomorrow's paper) -$5.99
=$10.37
Pay with $10 ECBs and money card, get back $12!

I haven't decided how I'm going to buy the paper tomorrow yet - I probably will blow the $3 ECB and get a 50 cent filler because free paper = deals like the one above.

I also have a $5.97 ECB on my other card and with the double paper I'll be able to do that Cross Action deal twice so...I may get 4 of those.

*NOTE: This deal hasn't been tested yet, so I can't make any guarantees that the coupons will work or that the ECBs will print, etc. STAY TUNED.

Day 15 - Trip 2

Bought 1 Garnier cleanser - $5.99
Used $1/Garnier coupon (semi-cheating, my apologies ;) )
Paid $5.41 on gift card (so I have 85 cents left on the card) and OOP was therefore zero.
Got back $10 ECBs.
I think I'm done for the week. :)

Day 15 - Trip 1

Went to my favorite CVS because I knew they'd give me no trouble with Internet coupons. But as usual, they were also out of things I needed. So I got a bodywash I'm not thrilled with - that I may exchange - and I got a Garnier face scrub that didn't work for the deal, so I returned it and got a gift card that I will use later tonight or tomorrow to get the right one at the other CVS.

For now, here's what I did.

Transaction 1:
1 Powerade - $1
1 Dove bodywash (gentle exfoliating - I really wanted cucumber...) - $3.99
2 Listerine Smart Rinses - $6.98

Used 75 cents off Powerade (forgot to hand it over at first and was confused as to how I'd screwed up my math so much!), 2 $1/Smart Rinse IPs, $1 off Dove body wash, $8 ECBs.
Paid 45 cents (23 cents tax), got back $6.98 in ECBs.

Transaction 2:
1 Dove deodorant - $2.50
1 CVS pocket tissues - 50 cents
1 Garnier cleanser - $5.99

Used $1 off Dove deodorant, $1 off Garnier, $6.98 in ECBs.
Paid 15 cents (14 cents tax), got back $3 in ECBs.

Realized the Garnier didn't work for the deal (it was different from the one I bought - pictured in yesterday's entry - but I was hoping...) so I returned it immediately. Got back my 15 cents and got a gift card for $6.26 (so I will count this toward this entry's ECB tally and hopefully have a good update for you later).

Day 14- Trip Two

I got some of the coupons in the mail that I was waiting for, so I went back to CVS (knowing now that they only had 2 of the Nivea shave gels and that the Benefiber was more expensive than I'd initially figured...)

Bought:
Two Nivea "Extreme" Shave Gels - $7.98
One Nivea shave gel - $2.69
Two Powerades - $2
Two Dove hair products (one shampoo, one conditioner) - BOGO so both were $4.99 total (in my plans at home I thought it would be $4.29, but it's still a great deal!)
One Garnier Nutritioniste scrub - $5.99
One Benefiber - $6.89

Used two 75 cents off Powerade, $4 off two Nivea Extreme gels, two $2 off Dove hair care, $1 off Nutritioniste, and $5.99 off Benefiber, as well as $5/$30 and $6.49 in ECBs. Paid $3.79 OOP (a bit high, but $1.19 was tax and now I have one Garnier toward the $10 ECB deal).
Got back $8 ECBs.

Current ECB status: $8

Day 14 - Trip One

So this morning I got a $5/$30 in my email, and I did a mad dash to redo some scenarios. Alas, when I got to CVS, they only had 2 of the Nivea shave gel (I even asked but they didn't have any more in the store) and the cheapest Benefiber was $6.89 (which is still a good deal since my "free" coupon is for $5.99 off and it will be a moneymaker, but it threw off my math). So I only did part 1 of the multi-part scenario, and I will probably go to my favorite CVS on Saturday to figure out what to do next. No matter what, I plan to end the week with 2 more Dove deodorants and 1 Dove bodywash.

Bought:
Two Dove deodorants - $5 (a much better deal than last week, wish I'd waited!)
One Listerine Smart Rinse - $3.49

Used $1/Smart Rinse (IP - the cashier scrutinized it and then let it go) and 2 75 cents off Dove coupons. (I have 2 $1/Dove on their way to me - they'll be used later), $5.97 ECBs.

Paid 20 cents OOP.
Got back $6.49 - yay profit!

Scenarios for the week of June 8

(Does anyone out there read this/notice my obsessive tweaks?)

I just got a coupon in the mail for free Benefiber. When you buy Benefiber this week, you get $3 in ECBs! So here's my plan...

Buy 2 Dove deodorants - $5
Buy 1 Smart Rinse - $3.49
Buy 2 Powerades - $2
Buy 1 Benefiber - $5.29 (or so - as long as it's under $5.99 it will be free)
-$1 Smart Rinse
-$2 Dove
-$1.50 Powerade
-Free Benefiber
$5.99
Pay with $5.97 + cash (I am still waiting for my $10 gift card from mypoints too!)
Get back $3.49 (Listerine), $3 (Dove), $3 (Benefiber). Have $3.98 (this - $1.02 from before) toward $10/$3 Dove deal.

Buy 4 Nivea shave gels - it looks like they are $3.99 - $15.46
Buy 1 Dove deodorant - $2.50
Buy 1 travel pack tissues - 50 cents
-$8 Nivea
-75 cents Dove
$9.71
Pay with $9.49, cash
Get back $5, have $6.48 toward Dove deal

[probably quit here, go back the next day...]

[updated 6/10]

Buy 2 Smart Rinses - $6.98
Buy 1 Powerade - $1 [local friend is mailing me the coupon...if I get it in time I'll do this]
-$2/Smart Rinse
- 75 cents Powerade
$5.23
Pay with $5, get back $6.98

Buy 2 Dove body wash - $7.98
Buy 1 Dove deodorant - $2.50
- $1 bodywash
- $1 bodywash
- 75 cents deodorant
$7.73
Pay with $6.98, cash, get back $3, have $6.96 toward Dove deal.

Then I could use the $3 to buy one more body wash (IF I get one more coupon, which I might), pay $2.99, get back $3 again.

I think I can switch the use of the $1 and 75 cent Dove coupons if I get antsy and go to CVS before the $1s come in the mail (which easily could happen!).

My Other Card

Photobucket

Yup, this is what I did. $1.10 out of pocket and $10 ECBs, $9.46 back. The Listerine is absolutely limit 4 now and I am going to try to print more coupons on more computers.

Two possibilities for today

I can't decide which one to do - check back later to see what I chose!

Buy 2 Smart Rinses and the double paper - $9.48 - $2 ($1 off each Smart Rinse) = $7.48, use $5.97 in ECBs and $1.51 in cash, get back $6.98 (loss of 50 cents but that means the paper only costs 50 cents).

OR

Other card:
Buy 1 Smart Rinse, 3 band aids, the double paper - $11.96 -$1 ($1 off Smart Rinse) = $10.96, pay with $10 ECB and 96 cents (plus tax), get back $9.46. This one's more likely as the $10 ECB has an earlier expiration date and is one big chunk that I want to split up. But it will depend on whether the store has everything in stock or not.

I tried to work the $3/$10 CVS brand coupon into both deals but I maxed the bandaids out on the experiment card and I honestly don't need any more Q-tips (plus that's barely a money maker and I'd still need filler).

See you in a bit!

Day 13 - Trip One

First transaction:

Bought:
Two CVS sheer band aids ($1.99 each)
Two 500 packs of CVS cotton swabs ($3.19 each - one flexible, one regular with a bonus travel pack attached)
Two Brut deodorants ($3.19 each)

Used two $1/Brut coupons, $3/$10 CVS purchase (got another one at the scanner, yay!), $3.99 ECBs, $4.99 ECBs, $2 ECBs.

Paid 95 cents OOP (19 cents tax).
Got back $6 (for the Brut), $3.98 (for the band aids), $4 (for the swabs) (Up $3)

Second transaction:
One CVS sheer band aids ($1.99) (Note: I've bought 3 now and my receipt now says limit reached)
Two Dove deodorants (as noted before, I love these) ($4.49 each)
One travel pack of tissues (50 cents)

Used two 75 cents/Dove coupons, $6 ECBs and $4 ECBs (the ones I just earned) (long story short, the cashier and I both messed up and I wound up losing 10 cents of my ECBs - I just can't get worked up over 10 cents though).

Paid 29 cents OOP (12 cents tax).
Got back $1.99 (for the band aids) but also now have $8.98 toward the Dove deal (spend $10, get $3 ECBs - more coupons for the deodorant are coming out this weekend so I will get one more, yay!)

Some June Scenarios

Experiment Card:

2x CVS cotton swabs ($3.19 x 2 = $6.38)
2x CVS bandaids ($1.99 x 2 = $3.98)

-$3/$10 CVS brand (from scanner)
pay $7.36 (use $4.99 and $2 ECBs)
get back $7.98

*I also have a $3.99 ECB that expires 6/13 - so I may just use that toward one of the Dove deodorants (see below). I also might do the Purell deal since I have two coupons for $1/Purell and the deal is buy-2-get-2-ECBs. Does anyone know how much the Purell is?

Other Card:

2x CVS cotton swabs ($3.19 x 2 = $6.38)
2x CVS bandaids ($1.99 x 2 = $3.98)
1x Brut deodorant ($3.69)

-$3/$10 CVS brand (from scanner)
-$1 Brut
pay $10.05 (use $10 ECBs)
get back $10.98

(There is buzz that you can get 3x the bandaids - if so, I'll save the extra one for filler later in the month.)

I also really really like the new Dove deodorants (the cucumber one, the grapefruit one, the water lily one - I got a free sample of each one and now they're my new favorites). There is a June deal of buy $10, get $3 in ECB back. I have two 75 cent coupons for the deodorant so far, but that's still not a super amazing deal since I'm currently low on ECBs. I may buy two and then wait to see if other Dove deodorant coupons come out before maxing out the deal. I also just ordered a $10 CVS gift card from mypoints (yay!) so if it comes before the end of June I can use THAT to help me out.

I'm probably going to skip the free toothbrushes this month - I have plenty now - unless there is some super moneymaking deal or I need to roll something.

I haven't seen anything OMG AMAZING in the upcoming circulars, but maybe something will jump out at me. I never need diapers - I use cloth - so diaper deals are lost on me, and that seems to be the biggest excitement for the other CVS blogs that I read...I'm hoping for a sale on the Dove deodorant to show up late in the month, personally!

Other Card...

I had big plans...but the paper didn't have the P&G insert and the Brut deodorant was more than $3. (I may still get it later in the month but the higher OOP/smaller profit than I expected threw me off and I don't need it anyway. I think I misread the deal...)

So in the end I got:

I used the coupon for free Dawn sent to me by P&G after the last bottle leaked, 2 $1 off the Listerine coupons (plus found the Try Me Free rebate form!), ECBs and the last of the money card from the sunscreen return.

I paid $4.38 OOP and ended up with $10 ECBs. Not fabulous, not awful.

The May deals are still on my receipt...
