Day 34 - Trip 1

Boring boring boring, with one little twist.

Bought:

1 double paper - $2.50
1 CoverGirl foundation - $5.49

Used $4 ECBs, $1/CoverGirl coupon. Paid $3.09. Got back $5.79. Yep - I hope it will scan correctly - the bottom of the receipt says $5.49, but the ECB says $5.79 all over it. Yay!

Scenario

Hmmm.

I have $4 in ECBs.

I probably will get the free-after-ECBs Cover Girl foundation and the newspaper.

$5.49 - foundation
$2.50 - paper
-$1/foundation coupon
-$4 ECBs

= $2.99

Get back $5.49.

It's not great and it's a kind of high OOP. We'll see.

I could then use the $5.49 and get the Gillette razor...

$9.99 - razor
-$4 coupon
-$5.49 ECBs
= 50 cents, get back $5.

I probably won't though. ;) I think it's going to be quiet until the bigger monitor deal in a few weeks. (This week you get $5 ECBs but in a few weeks you get more.)

Day 33 - Trip 1

I switched up my plans a bit...

Transaction 1:

L'Oreal Revitalift - $11.99
Used $3 coupon, $8.99 ECBs (adjusted). Paid 21 cents tax. Got back $11.99 ECBs.

Transaction 2:

(They were out of Perrier! I was rather amused by this. I will use my coupons to get it for free at Publix instead, as I've been doing all along, so no great loss.)

1 Crest Pro-Health Rinse (I like this stuff so I added it in at the last minute) - $2.99 (the coupon out there is for the bigger size and I don't cheat, in case you were wondering)
1 Adidas antiperspirant - $4.99
1 Nivea for Men "sensitive" bodywash - $4.99
1 CVS travel pack of baby wipes (the filler I decided on since they were out of Perrier - I use these in my diaper bag so they make great filler!) - 99 cents

Used $1/Adidas and $1/Nivea, $11.99 ECBs. Somehow in the way the cashier rang up the transaction it didn't make her adjust the $11.99 and in fact applied the overage to the tax. I suspect it was because she rang up my card at the end, but I'm not sure. In any case, my pre-tax total was negative 3 cents, and I paid 11 cents tax (but tax was actually 14 cents). NICE! I got back $4 for the Adidas, $4.99 for the Nivea, and $2 for the Crest. Lost $1 from transaction 1, but still up $2 from when I started.

Finally, got the two things I needed.

Transaction 3:
1 double Sunday paper - $2.50
1 box of 30 Breathe Right Strips - $10.99
-$3 CRT for Breathe Right, -$2 coupon for Breathe Right (had to explain to the cashier that you can use 1 CVS coupon + 1 man. coupon for each item), $4.99 ECBs, $2 ECBs. Paid $1.57 OOP (more than I'd planned but still a great deal), got nothing back.

And so I paid less than the cost of the newspaper for all of the above, and I still have $4. I also told the staff about the upcoming monitor deals so MAYBE they will have a bunch in stock during the appropriate weeks.

Score!

I just got a survey from CVS and I got $10 in ECBs for doing it!

The "downside" (there isn't really a downside though) is that it's for my "other" card. But I think I can make that work juuuust fine. I just haven't done two cards in a while - the other card has no ECBs on it and I was letting it just sit.

Anyway, hooray for $10!

Scenario for CVS - September 21

Here's what I think I'm going to do:

Buy one L'Oreal Revitalift - $11.99
Use $3 coupon, $9 in ECBs.
Get back $11.99 (profit)

Then:

1 double paper - $2.50
2 Crest Pro-Health toothpaste - $5.98
1 Nivea for Men bodywash - $4.99 (could substitute for Adidas antiperspirant but this is a better deal all around)
$1.50 in filler - I am thinking maybe of getting 2 Perrier, which are $1.69 each. Let's say that for the scenario.

- 2x $.75 Crest toothpaste coupons (thought I had $1, but my region got 75 cents. May reevaluate this deal - stay tuned), -$1 Nivea (must make sure I have this!), -2x $1 Perrier (I think I have two of the blinkies left). Use $11.99 ECB. (Will have to be adjusted a few cents if I do the exact thing above.)

Get back $1 for Perrier, $4 for Crest, $4.99 for Nivea. - $9.99. Lose $2 in ECBs buuuut pay nothing for the paper, still come out ahead 99 cents.

Stay tuned! I'm going on a coupon hunt later!

ETA: Alas, I don't have the Crest coupons. But I do have the Adidas coupon. So this is the plan for part 2:

1 Adidas antiperspirant - $4.99
1 Nivea for Men bodywash - $4.99
1 double paper - $2.50
2 Perrier - $3.38 [totally open to other suggestions for ECB-earning filler!]

= $15.86
- $1/Adidas, $1/Nivea, 2x$1/Perrier, $11.99 ECB (adjusted down to $11.86). Pay nothing.

Get back $1 for Perrier, $4 for Adidas, $4.99 for Nivea. $9.99. Still up $1 from the start and nothing but tax OOP.

Transaction 3:

1 30-count Breathe Right Strips - $10.99
Use $3 CRT, $2 coupon, $1 ECBs, $4.99 ECBs. Pay nothing but tax. Get nothing back.

End up with $4 in ECBs.

Now to just hope that the store has everything I want in stock!

Livejournal

Oh hey, someone syndicated me on livejournal! I'm flattered, since I'm usually the one creating feeds over there. Anyway, it says two people read me on lj. Comment and say hi sometime!

Boring Week

I bought the newspaper (with my other card). Ho hum.

The scanner did give both of my cards a $3/Breathe Right coupon (misspelled as Breath Right!) and I have a $2 manufacturer's coupon as well. However, it's for the larger size and the smaller size is the one generating ECBs. I think it would cost less to buy the smaller sizes and roll the ECBs than buy the bigger size with coupons. I have to think about it.

Also, my Sunday store only marked off its summer merch to 50% rather than 90%, so I didn't buy anything (though was tempted).

Anyway, nothing to report, nothing to see here, move along....

Scenario for CVS - Week of September 14

Next week looks pretty skimpy. I might buy the Breathe Right strips just to get them.

I am thinking of doing this:

Excedrin - $3.99
Double paper - $2.50
= $6.49
-$5.99 ECB, pay 50 cents OOP, get back $3.99. It would be a loss, but I'd only be paying 50 cents for the paper - and my goal when I started this blog was to keep my OOP low not to get a ton of ECBs. So yeah, I'll probably do that unless I see some other amazing deals pop up in the next few days.

Edited on Saturday night:

Other options. If the Excedrin Express comes in a PM formulation, I have a $2 coupon, making that a moneymaker (but I bet it doesn't).

Also, I am probably going to do this:

6x Ragu = $10
- 3x 50 cents off 2 ($1.50), -$3 ECB. Pay $5.50, get back $3. Cheap spaghetti sauce! (High-ish OOP but a great deal.)

I tried to figure out a good Cover Girl deal, but I won't combine BOGO with a second coupon, and I don't have any more actual physical $2/$10s (I only will use the actual coupon, not one from the Internet) so it doesn't seem like it will work out.

Also, I would like to make sure I have $9 in ECBs for the FOLLOWING week when the L'Oreal is free after $11.99 ECBs and there is a $3 coupon - I want that stuff, and I'll be able to increase my ECBs.

Decisions, decisions. Stay tuned!

Day 32 - Trip 2

1 double paper - $2.50
2 Revlon *Color Stay* nail polishes - $7.98

Used 2 x $2/Revlon coupons, $5.99 ECBs. Paid 80 cents (31 cents tax). Got back $6!

Total cash spent for the day - $1.05. Total ECB profit $1.01. Not baaaaad!

2 bags of Chex Mix - $2
1 Revlon *Color Stay* Nail Polish - $3.99
1 L'Oreal Genesis face wipes - $5.99
1 travel pack CVS baby wipes - 99 cents

Used $5.99 ECBs, $2 ECBs (adjusted to $1.98), $1 off Genesis, $2 off Revlon, 2x$1 off Chex Mix.

Paid 25 cents. Got back $5.99, $3! It's been a while since I made a profit!

But wait. Something's missing! Yes, they didn't have the double paper. I don't know if there WILL be a double paper today but I decided I'll walk to the other CVS later to check. I have a deal planned that should get me the paper and some nail polish all for free.

Note that the Revlon coupon DID NOT BEEP because I got the Color Stay nail polish. I believe if you get another kind it will beep.

Oops

I'm getting ready for my Sunday CVS run and I checked my Breathe Right coupons.

Both the printable and the one from inside the box are for sizes *larger* than the 12 count. So neither can be used for the monthly deal. That has changed my game plan - you'll see what I wind up doing later today but I'm disappointed! I'll still buy Breathe Right strips at some point during the month (I kind of have to) but probably not today.

Friday, September 5, 2008

Day 31 - Trip 1

So I did what I set out to do:

3 bottles of Suave body wash - $6 (one was the 18 oz size, the other two the 12 oz because it is my favorite scent and they were out of the 18 oz for it)
1 bottle of Dawn (the hand renewal kind) - 99 cents
- $1/Dawn hand renewal (adjusted to 99 cents), BOGO Suave ($2), 50 cents off one Suave
Paid $3.99 (49 cents tax) and got back $2 in ECBs.

Now I can do one of the two scenarios below - oh and get the free Chex Mix. <- Click for coupon, thank you Becca! (I hope it's on sale in my market next week!)

Scenarios for September 7

I'm trying to figure out the best way to work this week.

UPDATED based on plan for later (this entry is a mess, sorry!)

I have $1 off the L'Oreal Skin Genesis line, and I have a $5.99 ECB [and will have a $2 ECB later]. So I can get the free L'Oreal with a $1 profit toward something else.
I need to buy the double paper for $2.50.
I want to get Breathe Right strips - my husband uses them. They are $5.99 for a 12 count box, according to what I wrote in this blog the last time I bought them. That last time, I got a bonus box of 14, and it included a $2 coupon. So I can buy a box for $3.99 and get back $2 (September deal). I have one printable for $2 off as well, and I'm hoping that I can get another bonus box with more strips and another coupon in it as well.

I have three options, and each has pros and cons.

Option 1 - One big transaction:
1 LOreal - $5.99
1 double paper - $2.50
1 Breathe Right strips - $5.99
- $1 LOreal, $2 Breathe Right, $5.99 ECBs, $2 ECBs.
Pay $3.49 + tax OOP, get back $7.99 ECBs

Option 2:
Transaction 1:
1 LOreal - $5.99
1 double paper - $2.50
1 50 cent item (tissues or cough drops)
-$1 LOreal, $5.99 ECBs, $2 ECBs
Pay sales tax, get back $5.99

Transaction 2:
1 Breathe Right strips - $5.99
[$2 filler - probably use $2 coupon for nail polish so that it is free. Other options include $2.49 Herbal Essences or Perrier - I have two $1 coupons but am not sure how much it costs, will check later. I am more likely to actually use the HE, but I would make money on the nail polish...]

-$2 Breathe Right coupon, $5.99 ECBs, get back $2 for Breathe Right and $3 for nail polish (or $1 for HE)

Lower OOP, wind up with fewer ECBs, but get more stuff.

I'm torn! What would you do? Stay tuned to see what I choose, and of course watch this post because I might change it as I figure out other things!

UPDATE: I think later today I am going to go do this:
Dawn hand renewal - 99 cents
3 Suave body washes - $6
Use $1 off Dawn (but there is one cashier who totally freaks out if the coupon is for more than the item so we'll see), and then BOGO Suave and 50 cents off Suave. I should pay around $3.50 plus tax for that, and get $2 ECBs back. This would make my first option for Sunday work the best now, I think...
